year. Many of the Native American people now living in and or around the San
Joaquin County area and are from many different Tribes and nations from all over
the United States, Mexico and Canada and the largest be Californian Indian all
with different Tribal Cultures.
In efforts to maintain a balance, we invite and extend our
program to all people, although participants in our Community treatment
programs must meet eligibility requirements for admission. We ask that they
join us in respect for traditional and cultural customs of all Nations that
have been preserved for us today by our ancestors.
Three Rivers Indian Lodge is a 15-bed, 90-day drug, and alcohol
rehabilitation program for Native American men in San Joaquin county and
servicing surrounding counties. The program has been existence since 1974 and is
unique in that it combines a conventional 12-step models approach to overcoming
addictions with a cultural component emphasizing traditional Native American
values and spiritual practices.
The treatment program reinforces cultural traditions in a variety of ways.
Weekly cultural meetings provide instruction concerning various tribal
customs, Videos, field trips, and guidance by spiritual leaders to help rebuild the cultural foundations that may have been
lost or abandoned during the client’s difficulties in life. Traditional Native art forms from many tribes are utilized to reinforce
personal self-esteem by encouraging the client’s natural creativity.
It is the philosophy of the Native Directions, Inc. that through the renewal of traditional Native values and customs it is possible for all
American Indians to secure a positive life style and promote a positive self-image within their community and to the world.
